Climate Change in Theology

Theology

Theology is the study of God. Realizing that many people do not believe in the same God, or any god at all, this section is simply to illustrate that “sacred” writings also contain evidence of significant climate change over the aeons. This is significant to the Climate Change conversation, since many religious people have had a difficult time finding their voice in the matter.

The Bible speaks of Climate Change in many different contexts–typically as a passing note within a greater story. Here are just a few:

  1. The Environmental Consequence of Evil. The Bible clearly identifies a connection between the consequences of wickedness and the health of the land.
  2. The Global Flood. The book of Genesis tells of a great flood that dramatically affected the entire earth.
  3. The Demise of the Southern Dead Sea Plains. Burning sulphur, ash and salt decimate an entire region.
  4. The Desertification of Zoar. A former lush paradise was converted to desert over time.
