Climate Change in Ecology

Ecology

One of the more notorious ways that humans impact the climate is through the alteration of the native ecosystem. Regardless of what biome we are speaking of, all over the world there are instances of how people have permanently changed the native flora and ecosystem.

  1. The first people to settle on Easter Island either practiced slash-and-burn deforestation, or rats they introduced decimated the forest over time. Either way, these settlers forever changed the ecology of the island, and the amount of oxygen and moisture that its forest of 15,000,000 trees provided. here
  2. Rainforest conversion to farmland
  3. Reforestation efforts may actually be contributing to climate change, when the wrong trees are used. here
